Heavy Equipment Asking Prices by Category

Before using an advertised price to plan a purchase, check how many listings actually show one and which machines are being compared. This report brings those details together by category, so you can decide where to start your search and what to ask sellers next.

Asking prices from selected US dealers, not completed sales or the whole market. The sample mixes years, models and conditions. Medians require at least 20 positive USD prices; other currencies are not converted.

Listing observations: Oct 7, 2026, 8:02 PM UTC – Oct 22, 2026, 1:09 AM UTC. Recalculation does not confirm availability or recheck the seller’s price.

What this snapshot shows

These findings describe listings in the selected catalog categories. Each citation includes its sample, dates and a link to the finding.

How many listings give you a price to compare

4,166 of 8,065 listings across the table's 21 categories include an asking price above zero (51.7%). Another 3,899 have no price and 0 show zero.

The median describes only listings that provide a price. Request quotes for the rest before comparing purchase budgets.

Price coverage varies by category

The lowest share of listings with a price in this table is for Equipment Trailer (163/474): 34.4%. The highest is for Motor Grader (157/174): 90.2%. The gap is 55.8 percentage points.

Lower coverage leaves more prices to request. It does not tell us why prices are missing or whether those machines cost more or less.

The middle asking-price range for telehandlers

The 175 original USD telehandler prices have a median of USD 48,000.00. The 25th-to-75th percentile range runs from USD 38,550.00 to USD 72,215.00; the category contains 269 listings in total.

The range combines different models, years and conditions. Use it to orient a search, not to value a particular machine or estimate selling prices.

Middle asking-price ranges

Each bar shows the 25th-to-75th percentile range; the dot marks the median. A shared axis makes the ranges visible, although the categories contain equipment of different sizes and functions.

Asking prices and listings by category

The percentages show how many listings in each category include a price. Medians and middle ranges use original US-dollar prices only, without converting other currencies. Each category includes different models, sizes, years and conditions.

What this snapshot includes

The starting cohort contains 13,997 public US listings with a recognized state. The table covers 8,065 listings in reviewed categories with at least 20 listings and 2 dealers. Another 5,932 listings fall outside the table's category or group-size criteria.

Each listing ID is counted once. A machine advertised by more than one seller could still appear more than once. We report price statistics from 20 USD amounts per category; a dash means the sample is too small, not that the price is zero.

The median is the middle sorted price. The middle range runs from the 25th to the 75th percentile, using linear interpolation. We do not remove extremes or adjust prices for year, model or condition. Downloads also include minimums, maximums and missing-data counts.

You can reproduce the percentages and tables from the download. Recomputing percentiles requires the individual listings, which are not included in the public file. This snapshot does not change automatically with the catalog; a new edition requires another analysis and review.

You may reuse this aggregate analysis with credit to Search Heavy Equipment and a link to the report. That permission does not cover the original dealer listings.

What do these prices describe?

This report describes asking prices in the Search Heavy Equipment catalog for equipment listed in the United States with a state recorded. The table covers the reviewed categories that meet the report's publication rules. It is a selected group of listings, not a survey of every machine for sale in the country.

The snapshot date identifies when we froze the catalog for this edition. The capture range shows when the underlying listing details were collected. Neither tells you when a machine sold, and the snapshot does not confirm that every listing is still available. Counts refer to listings; the same physical machine may appear in more than one dealer's inventory.

Read the price coverage before the median

Start with the number of listings that contribute a price. A category can have many listings but far fewer advertised amounts. Its median describes those visible prices; it does not fill in the prices that sellers have left out. Use the missing-price count to see how much of the category still requires a quote.

The middle range helps you look beyond the lowest and highest advertisements. It still combines the models, years and conditions represented in that category. Treat it as a way to organize your search, then narrow the comparison to machines suited to the same job. A lower median in another category does not establish that it is a suitable substitute.

We keep unusually low amounts in the published calculations rather than deciding what a seller must have meant. If an amount looks like a placeholder, ask the seller for the actual quote before including it in your purchase budget. Listings without a price and those showing zero remain separate from the prices used in the calculations.

Turn a shortlist into comparable quotes

Choose listings that could do the same work, then send each seller the same questions. Keep the original asking price alongside the seller's reply so you can see what changed and what the final offer includes.

  • Leave unanswered questions marked as pending; a blank field is not a confirmed feature or included service.
  • Compare the complete offers after the replies arrive. If a price changes, ask whether the change reflects different equipment, charges or terms.

Keep the date and scope with any figures you share

Use the citation and download links when quoting this edition. Keep the category, currency, price sample and capture period with the number. That context matters when someone compares this report with a quote or a live catalog page that has since changed.

The downloads contain category aggregates. You can check the listing and price-coverage totals from those rows, but you cannot recalculate the price distribution without the underlying listings, which are not included. A comparison with a later edition would also need to account for changes in which listings were included; this single snapshot does not establish a price trend.

Common questions

Are these the prices buyers actually paid?

No. These are advertised asking prices. The data does not show negotiated prices, completed purchases or whether an individual machine sold.

Can I use the category median to value a specific machine?

The median describes the listings with prices in that category. To assess a particular machine, compare its model, configuration, condition and included equipment with relevant offers, and request an appraisal if you need a valuation.

Why might the live catalog show different numbers?

This report preserves one dated snapshot. The live catalog can change as listings are added, updated or removed, and your filters may select a different group. Use the report's downloads when you need the figures from this edition.
